The Maine Power Reliability Program

The Central Maine Power Company's Maine Power Reliability Program (MPRP) is a $1.4 billion investment in Maine's bulk power transmission system.

The five-year project includes the construction of six new substations, upgrades to more than 40 existing substations, and the installation or rebuilding of nearly 440 miles of transmission line in 75 communities from Eliot to Orrington.

 

The new substations that will be constructed include:

 

• Albion Road (Benton)
• Coopers Mills Road (Windsor)
• Monmouth
• Larrabee Road (Lewiston)
• Raven Farm (Cumberland)
• Three Rivers (Eliot; built by PSNH)

Additionally, there are major expansions to six existing substations:

• Belfast

  

• Livermore Falls
• Maguire Road (Kennebunk)
• Orrington (by Bangor Hydro)
• South Gorham
• Surowiec (Pownal)

 

 

Transmission line construction includes 184 miles of new 345 kV transmission line that will span from:

 

• Eliot to Gorham
  
• Cumberland to Pownal
• Pownal to Lewiston
• Lewiston to Windsor
• Windsor to Pittsfield
• Pittsfield to Frankfort

Additionally, 100 miles of new 115 kV line will be built from:

• Lewiston to Livermore Falls
• Livermore Falls to Rumford
• Windsor to Orrington
  

With work in 13 of Maine's 16 counties, the MPRP is the largest construction project in the state's history.
