The project in Woolwich will involve separating two existing 345 kV
transmission lines located on the northerly towers between the Kennebec
River Crossing and Chopps Point Road. Similar work will be undertaken on
the Bowdoinham side of the river. In order to accommodate the
separation of the lines, the southerly tower on the river will be
upgraded to a size and height similar to the northerly tower
(approximately 330 feet in height) ; the southerly tower located uphill
from the river near Chopps Point Road will be replaced with a monopole.
Once completed, the northerly towers will carry a single 345 kV
transmission line and the southerly towers will carry the existing 115
kV line and the relocated 345 kV line. The project will also involve
modifications to two other structures near Chopps Point Road.
Local permitting efforts will begin one year prior to expected construction start date per request of the Planning Board.
