Benefits to Maine

The Fowler Bog site includes three contiguous undeveloped parcels comprising 434 acres. The property includes 173 acres of wetlands that extends the Fowler Bog along the western portion of the property. In addition to the hundreds of acres of underdeveloped wetlands and uplands, the property also provides 5 vernal pools, streams with 2,622 linear feet, beaver flowages and habitat for deer wintering areas (DWA) and inland waterfowl and wading bird habitat (WWH).
The MPRP property is contiguous to approximately 10,000 acres of underdeveloped land including the extensive Fowler Bog wetland complex that has been identified as a conservation priority by the Friends of Unity Wetlands and the Maine Natural Areas Program and directly abuts existing conserved lands. These conserved lands include the Rudolph Farm Easement and the Hawes-Kenney Farm Easement, the Unity College Wetlands Parcel and the Sandy Stream Division of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Sunkhaze Meadows National Wildlife Refuge.
This site is protected by a conservation easement and was transferred to the Sebasticook Regional Land Trust with a $25,000 stewardship grant for the management and up keep of the property in December 2010. Preservation of this site will provide permanent protection from development, loss and degradation of wetland and upland buffers. Significant wildlife habitat, water quality and recreational values will be preserved.
