Maine utility regulators approve $1.4 billion transmission line investment

Maine Power Reliability Program will be the largest transmission investment in New England history

AUGUSTA, Maine, May 14, 2010 — Central Maine Power Company (CMP) has received approval from the Maine Public Utilities Commission (MPUC) for its proposed Maine Power Reliability Program (MPRP). The Commission's favorable decision represents the most significant milestone to date for the utility's multi-year project to invest $1.4 billion in its bulk power transmission system.

“This investment will ensure continued reliable service for utility customers in Maine and throughout New England. The Commission's endorsement of our plan is a clear signal that we're moving in the right direction,” said Sara Burns, president of Central Maine Power. “We're building a more robust, state-of-the-art system that will serve the region's growing renewable energy sector and provide tremendous economic benefits to the state.”
