Upgrades to Surowiec Substation in North Pownal

Expansion of Surowiec Substation requires a series of modifications

The MPRP proposes to expand the 345 kV portion of the Surowiec Substation to accommodate two new 345 kV transmission lines. The modifications to the substation include expansion on the north side of the substation to accommodate the new 345 kV lines, the addition of one new 115 kV breaker to the existing on the south side of the substation to improve system operability, and the replacement of two reactors, one of which has already been replaced. Switches and other minor equipment will also be added to the substation.Construction will begin in the near future and is projected to continue into mid 2013.
