Nonesuch River

The Nonesuch River property consists of 92 acres of diverse forested wetlands and uplands with 1.73 linear miles of river bordered by flood plain along both banks. The property contains diverse wildlife habitats including mowed hay fields, woodlands, thickets, abandoned orchard, fourteen vernal pools, streams and meadows.

The parcel abuts the 337-acre Larrabee Farms Wetland Mitigation Project and is upstream to the Scarborough Marsh Wildlife Management Area. The protection of this parcel secures an important link for a conservation strategy identified in the Town of Scarborough’s Comprehensive Plan for the Nonesuch River that would protect the river as a natural wildlife corridor.

This parcel is permanently protected by a deed covenants and was transferred to the Nonesuch Land Trust in February 2011 with a $25,000 stewardship grant to re-establish the riparian floodplain by trees, shrubs and woody wetland plantings.
