The part of the MPRP located in Saco involves the construction of a new 345 kV transmission line and the rebuilding of a 115 kV transmission line and 34.5 kV transmission line within the existing CMP corridor.
The corridor extends approximately 6.75 miles from the municipal border of Saco/Scarborough to the existing Louden Substation and continues to the Saco River where it crosses into Biddeford. Structure heights will vary due to terrain and the need to achieve spans that will avoid or minimize impacts to natural resources.
The new 345 kV transmission line, Section 3021, will be installed roughly in the center of the existing corridor on H-frame structures approximately 75 feet in height. The existing 115 kV transmission line, Section 238, currently runs on H-frame structures approximately 45 feet in height, which will be removed and replaced with single-pole structures approximately 75 feet in height. A three-pole structure will be installed at the crossing of the Saco River.
The existing 34.5 kV transmission line, Section 175, currently runs on single-pole structures approximately 35 feet in height with the conductors arranged horizontally. These structures will be removed and replaced with single-pole structures approximately 45 feet in height with the conductors arranged vertically.
