Wilmot Brook

The Wilmot Brook Property is a 1,197-acre block of lands that is primarily undeveloped and encompasses 209 acres of wetland, 18 significant vernal pools, 30 vernal pools, 7.2 linear miles of stream and 1 active Bald Eagle nest site. The significant property size, location in proximity to population areas, variety of vegetative communities, soils and natural resources makes this property and excellent compensation parcel and also provides an outstanding opportunity for the site to function as a learning center for schools, governmental natural resource agencies and non-governmental organizations.

The Wilmot Brook property is in proximity to or is connected by the Kennebec River to other conservation lands and wildlife management areas, including the Maine Natural Area Program Kennebec Estuary Focus Area, the Land for Maine’s Hiatt Farm and Alice Wheeler Farm, Steve Powell Wildlife Management Area, Green Point Wildlife Management Area and the Abagadasset River Conservation Area. In the context of local and regional conservation planning, the proximity of other conserved and public lands enhances the conservation value of the Wilmot Brook property.

This property was transferred to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife in April 2011.
